In a quiet backyard, a tense moment unfolded when a snake slowly approached a group of tiny raccoon babies.

The three small kits stood close together, unaware of the danger moving toward them. But their mother noticed immediately.

Within seconds, the raccoon stepped forward and positioned herself between the snake and her babies.
