This ladybug picture seems straightforward until you notice the small red-and-black shapes tucked beside some of the larger insects. Many viewers count the nine prominent ladybugs and stop there.
But the trick is to examine the edges of each large beetle. A smaller ladybug may be partly concealed beneath another’s shell, with only its spotted back or tiny head visible.
Look for the hidden ladybugs
Begin with the large three-by-three arrangement, then inspect the spaces around the top, middle, and bottom rows. Count the small, clearly separate ladybugs as well as the larger ones.
There are 13 visible ladybugs in total when the four smaller hidden ladybugs are included.
It’s a fun little observation challenge. Did you spot the tiny ones before reading the explanation?
