When our son was born, our rescue dog Max became extremely protective.
He would position himself right next to the crib and growl at anyone who tried to pick up the baby — even us, his owners. We were worried he might be jealous or that something was wrong with him.
We tried everything to get him used to the baby, but nothing worked. Max refused to let anyone near our son.
Then one night at exactly 2:47 AM, the baby monitor lit up with noise. When we checked the camera footage, our hearts stopped.
There, in the green glow of night vision, we saw a large rat crawling along the edge of the crib, heading straight for our sleeping baby.
Before we could even react, Max was already there. He lunged forward, grabbed the rat in his mouth, and shook it violently until it was gone. Then he stood guard over the crib, refusing to move until we arrived.
That’s when we realized the truth: Max wasn’t being aggressive or jealous. He was protecting our baby from a danger we couldn’t see. He had been sensing the rats in the walls and floorboards for weeks and was doing everything he could to keep our son safe.
We immediately called an exterminator and made the house safe. From that night on, we trusted Max completely. He now sleeps right beside the crib every night as our official baby guardian.
Dogs have instincts we can only dream of. Max didn’t just love our baby — he became his silent protector. ❤️
