This is a vintage canning jar lifter (also called jar tongs or jar wrench).
Before modern canning tools, families used these to safely lift hot glass jars out of boiling water during home canning season. The metal arms would grip the jar securely while the long wooden handle kept hands safe from the heat.
It was an essential tool in every grandma’s kitchen for preserving fruits, vegetables, jams, and pickles. Once you see how it works, it makes perfect sense!
