One of the most famous examples of cross-species bonding happened with Koko, a western lowland gorilla who learned sign language. Koko developed a strong attachment to a kitten she named “All Ball.” She treated the tiny cat with gentleness and affection, often signing to ask for her kitten and showing clear signs of love and care.
Although the story had a sad ending when the kitten passed away, it revealed the emotional depth and capacity for compassion that gorillas can show. Koko’s bond with All Ball became a powerful symbol of the connection possible between humans, animals, and even across different species.
