Girl Reads to Shelter Dogs Waiting for Adoption

Inside a quiet animal shelter, a simple routine has been touching the hearts of staff and visitors alike.

A young girl visits the shelter regularly and sits on the floor near the dog kennels with a book in her hands. Instead of reading at home, she chooses to read her stories out loud to the dogs waiting behind the cages.

At first, the shelter staff thought she was simply passing time.

But they soon realized something special was happening.

Many of the dogs at the shelter are nervous and anxious, especially around strangers. As the girl calmly reads, the dogs begin to relax. Some sit quietly, others lie down and listen as if they are part of the story.

Over time, the dogs become calmer and more comfortable around people.

Shelter workers say the girl’s visits help the animals feel less alone — and sometimes even help them become more adoptable.

Sometimes kindness can come from the smallest voices.
