Only Sharp Minds Get This Right: What Comes After 3, 6, 12?

At first glance, the sequence looks harmless: 3, 6, 12… and then a blank space asking for the next number. It feels like one of those questions that should be easy—but that’s exactly where people start to hesitate.

The human brain has a funny habit of complicating things. Instead of trusting the obvious, we begin searching for hidden tricks, deeper meanings, or exceptions that don’t actually exist. That’s why puzzles like this are so effective—they test not just logic, but confidence in simple reasoning.

If you take a step back and look at the numbers calmly, the pattern becomes clear. Each number is simply doubling the previous one. Starting from 3, doubling gives 6. Doubling 6 gives 12. Continue the same rule, and the next number becomes 24.

What makes this puzzle interesting isn’t the math—it’s the psychology behind it. Many people second-guess themselves because the pattern feels “too easy.” That moment of doubt is exactly where mistakes happen. Some will try adding, others will look for alternating patterns, and a few will abandon the obvious answer entirely.

But the truth is, not every problem is designed to trick you. Sometimes, the smartest move is to recognize simplicity and trust it.

So the real question isn’t just whether you got 24—it’s whether you believed it was correct the first time you thought of it.
