Every evening for almost two weeks, the same little tabby cat would appear behind me as I walked home from work.

It started following me from the corner near the market, staying a few steps behind, meowing gently. At first I thought it was just another hungry stray, so I started leaving food out for it. But even after eating, it kept following me all the way to my apartment building.

I would wave it away and go inside, but the next day it was there again, waiting patiently.

One rainy evening I finally stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and crouched down. The cat came right up to me and rubbed against my leg, purring loudly. That’s when I noticed something I hadn’t seen before.

Around its neck was a faded, dirty collar with a small, cracked tag. On the tag was a phone number and a name: “Mimi – If found, please call my mom.”

My heart sank.

I called the number immediately. A woman answered, her voice shaking with emotion. She told me her 12-year-old daughter had lost Mimi six months earlier when they moved houses. The little girl had been heartbroken and cried for weeks, refusing to get another cat.

The woman came to meet us right away. The moment Mimi saw her, she ran straight into her arms, purring and crying at the same time.

It turned out the cat had been searching for her family the entire time… and somehow, she had chosen me to help her get home.

That night, Mimi was finally reunited with the little girl who never stopped missing her. The mother told me her daughter smiled for the first time in months when she saw her cat.

Sometimes animals have more faith and determination than we do. This stray cat never gave up on finding her way back to the family that loved her. ❤️
