For three long days, a beautiful Border Collie mix sat faithfully outside Room 312 at the hospital.
He wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t play, and refused to leave no matter how much the staff tried to coax him away. He just waited, ears perked, eyes fixed on the door.
The nurses learned that the dog belonged to Mr. Thompson, an 82-year-old patient who had been admitted after a serious fall. Mr. Thompson was weak and on oxygen, and hospital policy normally didn’t allow pets.
But on the third evening, one compassionate nurse decided to bend the rules. She quietly opened the door and let the dog inside.

The staff were so moved that they made an exception and allowed the dog to stay by his owner’s side every day. The two were inseparable — the dog providing comfort and love that medicine alone couldn’t give.
A few weeks later, Mr. Thompson was well enough to go home… with his loyal companion right beside him.
