This bizarre-looking spider has long, curved black “horns” coming out of its head and a bright yellow body with black spots. At first glance, it looks like something from a horror movie.
It’s actually a Long-horned Orb-weaver (Macracantha arcuata), a harmless spider. Those dramatic spines are used to deter predators. They’re completely safe to humans and help control insect populations by building webs.
