X-Ray vs MRI vs CT Scan – Clear Difference Explained With a Banana

This helpful image uses a banana to show the clear differences between three common medical imaging techniques.

X-Ray: Shows the basic outline and dense structures (like the banana’s skin and stem).

MRI: Gives a detailed view of soft tissues and internal structures using magnetic fields.

CT Scan: Creates cross-sectional “slices” that show the inside of the object in incredible detail.

Each method serves a different medical purpose. X-rays are fast and good for bones, MRIs excel at soft tissue, and CT scans provide 3D-like layered images.
