Farmer Hears His Horse Kicking the Stall at Midnight—Then Opens the Door

A farmer was awakened shortly after midnight by the sound of his horse repeatedly kicking the wooden stall.

The animal was normally calm, so the farmer immediately knew something was wrong. He grabbed a flashlight, hurried across the dark yard, and opened the stable door.

The horse stepped forward nervously and kept looking toward the rear of the barn. When the farmer followed its gaze, he discovered smoke beginning to rise from an overheated electrical wire near a pile of dry hay.

He quickly moved the animals outside and called for help before the small fire could spread through the wooden structure.

By morning, the barn was still standing and every animal was safe. The farmer later said his horse’s warning had given him the few precious minutes he needed to prevent a disaster.
