This cat-counting puzzle contains far more than the nine cats most people notice at first glance.
Count each group carefully from left to right:
Top row: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 cats
Middle row:
Left group: 2 cats
Center group: 2 cats
Right group: 5 cats
Bottom row:
Left group: 1 cat
Center group: 2 cats
Right group: 1 cat
Now add them together:
3 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 16
The correct answer is 16 cats.
Many people answer nine because they count only the main positions and overlook the smaller kittens hiding beside the larger cats.
