This classic word riddle has been making the rounds on social media, and it is a wonderful test of your creative thinking! It gives you a few simple clues that sound completely impossible until you look at them in a brand new way.
The riddle asks: “What has keys, but can’t open locks? What has a space, but no room? You can enter, but you can’t go outside. What am I?”
What makes this puzzle so tricky is how it uses everyday words that have double meanings. When we hear the word “keys,” our brains instantly picture a metal key used for a door lock. When we hear “space” and “room,” we naturally think of the inside of a physical building.
However, to solve this riddle, you have to think about a device you probably use almost every single day.
The “keys” are the buttons you press to type. The “space” refers to the long spacebar at the bottom. Finally, “enter” refers to the specific key you press to start a new line or submit a search!
Answer: A keyboard.
