How Many Herons Can You Find? Look Carefully Around the Water

This wetland scene contains herons in several different places. Some are standing in the reeds or shallow water, one is perched on a branch, and others are farther away or flying overhead.

To avoid losing count, scan the picture from the upper-left corner across the sky, then work downward through the reeds and water.

Answer: There are 11 herons in the picture.

The birds partly hidden by reeds are the easiest to overlook. If your first total was lower, check the edges of the image and the distant shoreline before counting again.
