You Cut Off My Head and Start to Cry — What Am I?

This riddle describes something that often makes people tear up as soon as they start cutting it.

When you chop the top, or “head,” off an onion and begin slicing it, chemicals released from the onion can irritate your eyes and make you cry.

Answer: An onion.

The clue is both literal and playful: removing the onion’s top leads directly to the tears.
