At first glance, this colorful drawing looks like an ordinary trip to a neighborhood grocery store in the 1970s. A cashier works behind the register, shelves are full of canned goods and cereals, and shoppers are choosing their groceries.
But the headline asks you to spot the error. What detail catches your eye first?
Take a careful tour of the scene
Start with the calendar near the checkout counter. It says June 1976. Then scan the signage above the register, the hanging scale and the various food packages. Move down to the shoppers, their baskets and the construction of the carts.
Picture puzzles often hide an inconsistency where the viewer least expects it. It could be an object drawn in an odd way, an impossible arrangement, or a detail that seems out of place for the setting.
Is there one definite answer?
Because this is a stylized illustration, several details could be described as strange or historically unusual. However, not every unfamiliar feature is automatically a mistake. Headphones, for example, existed in 1976, so seeing someone wearing them is not proof by itself of a time-travel error.
That makes the picture a fun conversation challenge rather than a puzzle with a demonstrably unique solution. Look at the scene one more time and share the first specific mistake you notice.
What do you think the artist intended viewers to spot?
