This August 25th, challenge yourself with a handwritten word puzzle that has been sparking some great conversations online! It is a classic brain teaser that might just bring back a few memories from family game nights, and it is a wonderful test of your creative thinking.
The file, image_26.png, asks a very simple question: “What has 6 faces and 21 eyes but cannot see?”
What makes this puzzle so clever is how it plays with our everyday vocabulary. Because the riddle specifically mentions “faces” and “eyes,” our brains naturally jump straight to thinking about people, animals, or perhaps some kind of strange sci-fi monster. If you try to solve it by thinking about biology or living creatures, you will find yourself completely stuck!
To solve this one, you have to think about the different ways we use these words. Instead of a living creature, think about a small, cube-shaped object you would roll on a table when playing your favorite classic board game. The sides of the cube are called “faces,” and if you add up all the little dots (which are sometimes called “eyes” or pips), they equal exactly 21!
Answer: A die (or dice).
