This classic riddle asks: What has many ears but can’t hear?
The answer is: a cornfield.
Each stalk of corn can grow one or more “ears” of corn. A field full of corn can therefore contain hundreds or even thousands of ears.
Of course, those ears cannot hear anything.
The riddle works because the word “ear” has two meanings. It can refer to the part of the body used for hearing, or to an ear of corn.
Once you switch from anatomy to agriculture, the answer becomes clear.
