This Simple Math Problem Is Trickier Than It Looks… Most People Get It Wrong

At first glance it looks easy, just a quick calculation, something you’d solve in seconds without even thinking, and that’s exactly why so many people get it wrong, because they rush, they trust their instinct instead of slowing down and following the rules

The problem is right there, 230 – 220 ÷ 2, nothing complicated, nothing hidden, but one small detail changes everything

Most people go left to right, 230 – 220 = 10, then 10 ÷ 2 = 5, and they feel confident, quick answer, done, but that’s not how math works

There’s an order

And if you ignore it, you get the wrong result every time

Division always comes before subtraction

So instead of starting with 230 – 220, you start with the division

220 ÷ 2 = 110

Now the problem becomes much simpler

230 – 110 = 120

That’s the correct answer

120

It’s not a hard question, it’s a patience test, the kind that catches you the moment you try to be fast instead of accurate, and that’s why so many people fall into the trap
