Golden Retriever Puppy Stops Traffic to Protect Injured Baby Kangaroo
A quiet rural road turned into an unexpected rescue scene this week after a young Golden Retriever puppy stopped traffic to protect an injured baby kangaroo lying near the roadside.
According to the driver involved, the puppy suddenly ran into the lane and refused to move, forcing him to slow down. At first, he thought the dog was lost or playing. But moments later, he noticed the small kangaroo lying motionless on the grass just beside the road.
The puppy repeatedly circled the animal, barking and pacing, as if trying to alert passing drivers to the danger. Realizing what was happening, the driver pulled over and approached carefully.
The baby kangaroo appeared weak but alive. With the puppy staying close by, the man wrapped the animal in a blanket and placed it safely in his car before contacting a local wildlife rescue group.
Rescuers later confirmed the young kangaroo had likely been struck by a vehicle earlier but survived thanks to the puppy’s intervention preventing further harm.
Witnesses described the scene as “incredible,” noting the dog’s persistence and calm behavior throughout the rescue.
A reminder of the deep empathy animals can show toward one another.
