Hi everyone, my name is Garry and this is my 3-year-old daughter Sophia.
It’s just the two of us. Her mom left when Sophia was only 6 months old and we haven’t heard from her since. I’ve done my best to be both mom and dad — working long hours, making sure she’s fed, dressed, and loved every single day.
Lately Sophia has started noticing that other kids have mommies who pick them up from daycare, read bedtime stories, and braid their hair.
Every night she asks me the same question: “Daddy, where is my mommy?”
I try to explain it the best way a 3-year-old can understand, but yesterday she said something that shattered me.
While I was tucking her in she hugged me tight and whispered, “It’s okay Daddy… I can be your mommy now so you’re not lonely.”
I couldn’t hold back the tears. My little girl, who still needs me for everything, was trying to take care of me.
Being a single dad is the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Some days I feel like I’m failing, but moments like this remind me why I keep going.
If you’re a single parent, I see you. The late nights, the guilt, the endless worry — you’re not alone.
And to Sophia: thank you for being my reason to smile every day. You may not have a mommy, but you have a daddy who loves you more than anything in this world. ❤️
If this story touched you, please share it so other single parents know they’re not alone. Drop a ❤️ or share your own single parent story in the comments… I read every single one.
