When 6-year-old Mia first met Luna, the shelter told them the white cat was completely deaf.

Most people walked past her, but Mia didn’t. She sat on the floor with Luna for hours, gently touching her paws and showing her simple hand signs.

The shelter staff were amazed when Luna started responding — lifting her paw when Mia signed “high five,” and rubbing her head against Mia’s hand when she signed “love.”

Now at home, their bond has grown even stronger.

Every day after school, Mia sits on her pink bed with Luna and practices signs. “Play,” “treat,” “cuddle,” and “sleep” are their favorites. Luna watches Mia’s hands carefully and answers with soft paw taps or happy blinks.

The blue tag on Luna’s collar simply says “DEAF” so everyone knows to be gentle and visual with her.

Mia’s mom says the two of them have taught the whole family an important lesson: communication isn’t just about sound — it’s about love, patience, and paying attention.

Luna may not hear Mia’s laughter, but she feels it in every gentle touch and every shared moment on that sunny bed.
