Stray Dog Stubby Became a World War I Hero – The Incredible True Story

During World War I, a stray dog named Stubby wandered onto a training field in Connecticut and was adopted by soldiers of the 102nd Infantry. He soon joined them on the front lines in France, where he proved to be an extraordinary companion.

Stubby warned troops of incoming gas attacks, located wounded soldiers in no-man’s-land, and even helped capture a German spy. He was wounded in battle but always returned to duty. By the end of the war, Stubby had become the most decorated war dog in American history, receiving medals, a promotion to sergeant, and a hero’s welcome back home.

His story remains one of the most inspiring examples of loyalty, courage, and the bond between soldiers and their dogs.
