One of the most frequently misunderstood cat behaviours is showing their belly. Many owners interpret this as an invitation for belly rubs. In reality, it is often a sign of trust — the cat feels safe enough to expose its most vulnerable area.
However, most cats do not enjoy having their belly touched. It is a sensitive area, and rubbing it can quickly become overstimulating or uncomfortable. They may roll over as a form of play invitation or defensive posture rather than a request for petting.
Respecting this boundary helps build a stronger, more trusting relationship with your cat.
