For weeks, a handsome German Shepherd had been visiting Fire Station No. 12.
Every morning he would arrive right on time, sit in the same spot in front of the open bay doors, and wait. The firefighters named him “Brave” because of how confidently he carried himself. They gave him water, treats, and plenty of pets. He quickly became the station’s unofficial mascot.
But no one knew where he came from or why he kept coming back.
One quiet afternoon, one of the firefighters decided to follow him when he left. Brave led him across the street, through a small park, and straight to a modest house a few blocks away.
There, sitting on the front porch, was an elderly retired firefighter named Captain Mike. He had served at Station 12 for over 30 years before health issues forced him to retire.
Captain Mike explained with tears in his eyes that Brave was his dog. After he retired, he became too weak to take Brave on long walks like they used to. So Brave started making the trip to the station by himself every day — the same station where he and his dad had spent so many years together.
He was still showing up for duty… just like his dad taught him.
The firefighters were so moved that they made a special arrangement. Every day, one of them drives Captain Mike and Brave to the station for a visit. Brave now proudly wears his “Honorary K-9” badge, and the whole crew makes sure both father and son get to spend time together where they belong.
This loyal dog reminded everyone at Station 12 what true dedication and love look like. ❤️
