This classic riddle sounds as though it is asking for a distance, but the wording contains the trick. A dog can keep running toward the center of the woods only until it reaches the halfway point.
After that point, the dog is no longer running into the woods. It is running out of them.
Answer: Halfway into the woods.
The riddle works because we naturally focus on how far the dog can physically run instead of paying attention to the word “into.” Once the dog passes the middle, every step takes it closer to the other side.
