As we bowed our heads, my little grandson spoke loud and clear: “God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Grandpa gets us ice cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all! Amen!”
The whole table — and half the restaurant — burst out laughing. His innocent mix of prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was the purest thing we’d heard in a long time. In that moment, surrounded by my grandchildren’s laughter, I felt something I hadn’t felt in years: pure, simple joy. Kids have a way of reminding us what really matters — faith, family, and yes… ice cream.
These little unexpected moments with our grandkids are the real blessings in life. They fill our hearts in ways nothing else can.
