Your Cat Is Probably Ignoring You On Purpose, New Study Suggests

If your cat acts like it doesn’t hear you calling its name, you’re not imagining things. According to a recent study, cats often choose to ignore their owners on purpose.

Researchers found that while cats can clearly recognize their owner’s voice, many selectively tune it out when they don’t feel like responding. This behavior is linked to their independent nature and strong sense of control.

Unlike dogs, cats don’t feel the same social pressure to always respond. They simply decide when and if they want to engage.

This explains why your cat can sleep through your voice but instantly wake up at the sound of a treat bag opening.
