In recent years, a group of orcas off the coast of Europe has been deliberately targeting and sinking yachts. What started as isolated incidents has now turned into a learned behavior, with younger orcas being taught by older ones how to ram and disable boats. So far, they have successfully sunk more than seven vessels.
Researchers believe this behavior may have started with one or two individuals and spread through the pod as a form of play or even protest against human presence. While no humans have been seriously harmed, the incidents have raised important questions about orca intelligence and how they interact with our world.
