500 Divided by Half Plus 50: Can You Solve This Tricky Math Riddle?

This math riddle is easy to misread because “divided by half” does not mean divided by two.

Half is written as 1/2, so the problem becomes:

500 ÷ 1/2 + 50

Dividing by a fraction means multiplying by its reciprocal:

500 × 2 = 1,000

Then add 50:

1,000 + 50 = 1,050

The correct answer is 1,050.

Many people answer 300 because they divide 500 by two instead of dividing it by one-half.
