This riddle asks: what can you drop without it ever hitting the ground?
A common answer is the temperature.
Temperature can drop sharply, but it is not a physical object falling through the air. When we say the temperature “drops,” we simply mean that the measured temperature becomes lower.
The trick is the word “drop.” It usually makes us picture something being released and falling toward the ground, but the same word is also used for numbers, prices, temperatures, and other measurements.
That double meaning makes “temperature” a neat fit: it can drop again and again without ever physically hitting the ground.
