This riddle sounds like it should involve a missing object: What can be lost without ever being found?
A classic answer is time.
We often say that we “lost time” when an opportunity, hour, or moment passes without being used. But unlike a lost key or wallet, that exact time cannot later be found and returned to us. Once a moment has passed, it is gone.
The puzzle works by using the word “lost” in two different senses. At first, most people imagine something misplaced that could eventually be discovered. The clue “without ever being found” points instead toward something irreversible.
Other creative answers may fit the wording, but time is one of the most familiar solutions. What did you guess?
