At first glance, this dog-counting picture looks like a tidy group portrait. Nine large dogs stand or sit in three rows. But the headline asks you to look again, and that’s the key to solving this visual puzzle.
How Many Dogs Can You Find?
The intended count is 14 dogs. Start with the nine obvious dogs: three across the back, three in the middle and three at the front. Then search the spaces around their ears, paws and shoulders.
Where Are the Hidden Dogs?
There is a little dog between the golden retriever and the black Labrador, another tucked behind the beagle, and more small faces peeking out from gaps among the dogs in the middle and bottom rows. One especially easy-to-miss puppy appears near the front of the group.
Visual counting riddles work because our eyes notice the biggest shapes first. Rather than looking at the picture as a whole, scan it from left to right and count each distinct face. Did you notice every hidden pup on your first try?
