At first glance, this penguin counting puzzle seems easy. Nine large penguins stand on the snow in neat rows, so it is tempting to stop counting. But a closer look reveals a few extra faces.
How many penguins are really here?
The answer is 12 penguins. You can easily spot nine larger penguins. Three additional chicks are tucked beside or beneath the larger birds, bringing the total to twelve.
Where are the hidden penguins?
Start at the top row and scan around the penguins’ wings. Then check the middle row, especially beside the left-hand penguin. Finally, look near the feet and flippers in the bottom row. The little chicks are smaller and blend into the snowy scene.
This is a fun attention test because our eyes naturally focus on the largest shapes. Once we decide that we have counted everything, it is easy to overlook objects tucked into the background.
