At first glance, this baby raccoon picture looks like a simple animal counting challenge. The obvious raccoons are easy to recognize, but take a second look: there are several smaller faces peeking out between them.
How many baby raccoons can you find?
The picture’s headline says most people see nine. The trick is to count the visible little raccoons as well as the larger ones. Some of the smallest faces are partly hidden by fur and paws, so a quick scan may miss them.
Where should you look?
Start at the top row. Inspect the space between the left and middle raccoons, then check behind the right-hand raccoon. In the center, look between the animals’ shoulders and around their front paws. Finally, check the lower-right corner and the gaps between the raccoons near the bottom.
The easiest way to tackle overlapping-animal pictures is to count each individual face rather than trying to trace every animal’s body. Move from top to bottom and keep track of the little eyes and ears you can clearly identify.
Challenge someone else
Were you able to spot more than the obvious group on your first attempt? Take one more careful look and compare your count with a friend. Hidden-object pictures are fun precisely because different people notice different details.
