Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are among Hollywood’s longest-lasting couples. They have shared their lives since 1983, built a blended family and remained close through more than four decades together. Yet they have never felt a need to formalize that bond with a traditional marriage.
Choosing each other without a wedding
At an event in New York in May 2026, Hawn revisited the subject. As reported by People, she explained that she and Russell place tremendous value on personal freedom and the ability to choose one another every day.
For Hawn, marriage is not the only measure of loyalty. She has described their relationship as one that allows both partners to remain themselves. The pair share a son, Wyatt Russell, as well as a close blended family with children from previous relationships.
More than four decades together
Their long partnership has included careers, family milestones, disagreements and shared joys. Hawn has been open about the fact that a lasting relationship does not require two people to agree on everything.
The lesson is not that every couple should make the same choice. It is that Hawn and Russell found an arrangement that suits their values. For them, the daily commitment has mattered more than a ceremony.
