Which Shadow Matches the Antique Violin? A Picture Puzzle for Sharp Eyes

An old violin has one of the most recognizable shapes in music: a long neck, a carved scroll, rounded shoulders, a narrow waist and a broad lower body. Those features make it beautiful to look at and also surprisingly difficult to match to a plain black shadow.

In this visual puzzle, the colorful violin appears above four possible silhouettes. The trick is to ignore the warm wooden color, decorative details and strings. A real shadow reveals none of that. It only preserves the outside contour.

How to solve the challenge

Start at the top. Look at how the tuning pegs project from both sides of the scroll. Then follow the neck downward to the upper body. Notice the curved indentation at the waist. Finally check the lower outline, which should be wider and more rounded than the upper section.

Do not rush to choose the shadow that simply looks most like a violin. Compare the proportions of the entire instrument, from the scroll to the bottom edge. That is the part of this challenge that rewards a careful eye.

The answer

The intended matching choice is C, the silhouette with the pronounced curved waist and fuller lower body. The drawings are stylized, so the useful way to check your choice is to compare the outside contours rather than tiny details inside the violin.
