How Many Birds Are Hiding Here? This Colorful Counting Puzzle Is Trickier Than It Looks

This delightful picture puzzle has been making the rounds on social media, and it is a wonderful test of your observation skills! At first glance, it just looks like a standard arrangement of red and green apples.

The image asks a very simple question: “How many apples do you see?”

What makes this counting challenge so tricky is how the apples are grouped together. There are nine different clusters of fruit, but they contain different numbers of apples in varying sizes. Some of the tiny red and green apples are hiding right in front of the larger ones, making it incredibly easy for your eyes to skip right over them!

To get the right answer, you have to look closely and count each group very carefully. If we go row by row, the top row has 8 apples total. The middle row has 9 apples, thanks to one particularly crowded group on the right side that has a tiny extra apple hiding in front! Finally, the bottom row has 7 apples.

When you add all of those rows up, you find the total amount of fruit.

Answer: 24.
