These twelve ornate gold brooches are arranged in a neat grid, each decorated with delicate floral patterns and a pearl-like center. At first glance, they seem identical. But one is different from the rest.
Your challenge is to examine all twelve and decide which vintage-style brooch breaks the pattern. The difference is subtle, so a quick glance may not be enough. Look carefully at the outer petals and the direction they point.
How to find the odd brooch
Try studying the grid one row at a time. Instead of comparing every tiny engraved detail, focus on the outline of the flower and the way the decorative points line up. Most of the brooches have the same orientation, with a matching petal position at the top and bottom.
Then look for a brooch where the entire flower appears rotated in relation to its neighbors. That is a much clearer clue than any slight difference in the shine or color of the metal.
The answer: Second row, third brooch
The different brooch is in the second row, third column. Counting from the top left, it is number 7 if you number each row from left to right. Its floral design is rotated compared with the other eleven brooches.
Once you notice the change in orientation, it becomes much easier to spot. Before that, the repeated gold pattern can make the unusual piece blend into the group.
Why vintage objects make great picture puzzles
Brooches were once a favorite accessory for coats, blouses, hats and dresses. Ornate pieces like these bring a little nostalgia to the challenge while offering plenty of small details for the eye to compare.
