This August 24th, challenge yourself with an adorable picture puzzle that has been making the rounds on social media! It is a fantastic test of observation skills, and at first glance, it just looks like a beautiful group of cartoon Bernese Mountain Dogs.
The image asks a very simple question: “How many Bernese Mountain Dogs are hiding here?”
What makes this counting challenge so tricky is how some of the tiny puppies are perfectly camouflaged among the fluffy black, white, and rust-colored fur of the larger animals. There are eight large dogs sitting and standing prominently, plus one puppy sitting all by itself in the very center, but a handful of sneaky little ones are tucked away. It is incredibly easy for older eyes to focus only on the big faces and completely skip over the hidden ones!
To get the right answer, you have to look closely and check every space carefully. Let’s count them up!
In the top row, there are 3 large dogs. There is 1 puppy standing safely underneath the dog on the left, 1 peeking out from behind the center dog, and 1 standing behind the back leg of the dog on the right.
In the middle row, there are 2 large dogs and 1 standalone puppy in the center. There is 1 puppy tucked between the front paws of the dog on the left, and 1 resting behind the back of the dog on the right.
In the bottom row, there are 3 large dogs. There is 1 puppy sitting right beside the front leg of the dog on the far left, 1 standing securely underneath the center dog, and 1 more peeking out from behind the dog on the far right.
When you add the 8 large dogs, the 1 solo center puppy, and the 8 partially hidden puppies together, you find the entire adorable pack.
Answer: 17.
