This short math puzzle can produce very different answers if you ignore the order of operations. The expression is 20 + 30 × 0 + 1.
Multiplication comes before addition, so begin with 30 × 0. That equals 0. The expression then becomes 20 + 0 + 1.
Answer: 21.
The common trap is calculating from left to right or assuming that multiplying by zero makes the entire expression zero. It only makes the multiplication term equal zero. Once that step is completed, adding the remaining numbers gives 21.
