This classic riddle asks:
“What can you see in water but never get wet?”
At first, you might think of something floating on the surface or an object protected from the water. But the answer depends on looking at the wording a little differently.
The correct answer is a reflection.
When you look into calm water, you can often see your own reflection, the sky, trees, buildings, or anything else nearby. The reflected image appears to be inside the water, but the image itself is not a physical object. Because of that, it can never actually become wet.
That is what makes the riddle clever. It uses the phrase “see in water” to make you imagine something physically sitting there, when the answer is really an image created by reflected light.
