A row of brightly colored pencils seems easy to count. But this visual brain teaser includes several smaller pencils hiding between the larger ones.
What’s the Correct Pencil Count?
There are 13 pencils in total. Nine full-size pencils form the obvious row, and four smaller pencils are tucked into the gaps.
Where Are the Extra Pencils?
Look between the red and orange pencils for a short green pencil. Check the gap between the yellow and green pencils for a small purple one. A little red pencil hides between the two blue pencils, and a short orange pencil appears between the purple and pink pencils.
Add the nine tall pencils to the four short pencils and you get 13.
Why Does This Counting Puzzle Work?
Our eyes are drawn toward the large and colorful objects, so smaller details can blend into the background. A careful top-to-bottom scan reveals the missing items. Did you count the small pencils immediately, or did you stop at nine?
