At first glance, this cute farmyard picture seems to show nine baby donkeys. Look a little closer, though, and you’ll notice several smaller donkeys peeking out from behind the bigger ones.
How many baby donkeys can you spot?
The trick is to count every distinct donkey rather than just the nine large ones arranged in the picture. Some of the smallest faces appear near fences, behind the front animals, or in the gaps between their bodies.
Where are the hidden donkeys?
Start behind the upper-left donkey, where a little face appears near the fence. Scan between the large donkeys in the middle, paying attention to the smaller ears. Next, look along the right side of the group for a small head peeking from behind a bigger donkey. Finally, inspect the lower-left section, where another little donkey is partly concealed.
If you count the nine obvious donkeys and the four smaller ones, the intended total is 13 baby donkeys.
Why hidden-animal puzzles can be tricky
Our eyes naturally notice the larger animals first. Small overlapping faces can blend into the background, especially when the animals have similar coloring. The best strategy is to move systematically from top to bottom and look for eyes, noses, and pairs of ears.
