A tense moment in a rural village was caught on video when a large anaconda wrapped itself around a baby goat while its mother stood nearby.
The incident happened near a grassy area close to water, where large snakes are sometimes seen hunting for food. In the footage, the massive snake coils around the small goat while the frightened mother goat watches from a short distance away.
People nearby quickly realized what was happening and began shouting and moving closer to scare the reptile away. Anacondas are powerful constrictors and can overpower prey by tightening their coils, but they can also retreat if they feel threatened.
As villagers approached and made noise, the snake slowly loosened its grip and began sliding away toward nearby vegetation.
Within moments it disappeared back into the wild.
The baby goat survived the frightening encounter, and the mother quickly rushed over to stay beside it. Wildlife analysts say situations like this can occur when livestock graze close to rivers where large snakes live.
