For nearly 11 years, a family in Pennsylvania wondered whether they would ever see their beloved dog again. Forty-Cal was taken from their backyard in the Mayfair neighborhood of Philadelphia in 2015, and despite years of searching, the dog never came home.
Then, in March 2026, a simple microchip scan produced the kind of news his family had nearly stopped expecting.
Eleven years of unanswered questions
The family’s two dogs were stolen from their yard. One was eventually found, but Forty-Cal remained missing. His owner, Jourdyn Koviak, made flyers and posted appeals online while the family continued hoping for information.
Time moved on and the family relocated to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. They nevertheless kept Forty-Cal’s lost-pet report active and his microchip contact information updated. That decision became crucial years later.
A senior dog finally returns home
When an older stray dog arrived at ACCT Philly, shelter staff scanned his microchip. It identified him as the long-missing Forty-Cal. The shelter contacted his family, who were shocked and overjoyed to learn he was alive.
Television station 6abc reported the reunion on March 23, 2026. The family brought Forty-Cal home, determined to give the now-senior dog comfort and care in the time ahead.
For anyone with a missing pet, the reunion carries a practical lesson: a registered microchip and current owner information can make an enormous difference, even after a pet has been gone for years.
