Mother Reunited With Son After 40 Years: The Emotional Airport Hug That Moved Millions

A mother and son who had spent about 40 years apart finally embraced at an airport, and the emotion of the moment touched millions of viewers. Their names are Jane Kim and Brian Oh, and the story behind their reunion is as moving as the video itself.

In a February 2024 interview with Good Morning America, Jane explained that her family had been separated when Brian was very young. After her divorce, she agreed to let relatives on his father’s side care for him, believing she would still be able to see him. Contact was later cut off.

Decades apart, but never forgotten

Brian grew up with questions about his family. He later learned that the woman he thought was his birth mother was his stepmother. On the other side of the separation, Jane continued to wonder about the boy she had not been able to raise.

A mutual acquaintance eventually helped the pair reconnect after Brian’s father died. A phone number was passed along, and Jane and Brian began speaking. The conversations lasted for hours as they tried to make up for lost time.

One unforgettable embrace

Jane’s other son, Ed Kim, helped change their travel plans so the family could meet in Los Angeles. At the airport, Jane and Brian broke down in tears as they hugged. Ed recorded the encounter and later shared it online, where it resonated with viewers who had experienced family separation themselves.

Four decades cannot be restored in a single meeting. But for Jane and Brian, that first embrace opened the possibility of building a relationship in the years still ahead.
